Bradley Lane Mural Project - Research For Photography In My Community

Murals In My Community.

For my Photography in the Community project I have chosen to do Murals within my community in Glen Innes, Auckland. The Bradley Lane Mural Project was an event organised by a local Samoan Artist and former member of TMD (The Most Dedicated) Gary Silipa that took place on the 15 & 16th of November in 2014 on Bradley Lane in Glen Innes.

Five murals were created by nine artists over the two day project. Those nine amazing artists that participated in this project were Askew One, Elliot Frances Stewart, Berst, Misery, Tomtom, Trustme, Component & Beck Wheeler.

The Bradley Lane is a annual project curated by Gary Silipa with the dream of having the entire lane painted with art that the local community could be proud of and inspired by and that people would make a point of coming to the Tamaki community to see it for themselves.

I love the fact that these artist are using the power of art to help and inspire youth. This is why I want to become a Muralists, to inspire the world visually.

One of the five collaboration murals by Askew & Elliot Francis Stewart. Elliot working on his the road worker women them and Askew working with a lot of the significant street names in the Glen Innes area particularly those with endangered state housing.

Task Seventeen - Manual

Just A Thought.

ISO:  400      WB: Auto White Balance
Shutter: 1/160    Apeture: f/16

Vantage: Here I am looking up to capture the object.
DOF: To get a deep depth of field you must have the aperture set at f/16.

Fore, Mid & Background: Foreground
Composition: Shooting landscape gives a great example of composition, so this picture represents horizontally
Framing: Using landscape I had to make sure that her face & the white cloud had both fit in the frame.
Line: Using the amount of light in my picture, you will see the lines through the concrete wall.
Texture: With the lighting from the back drop it brings less light onto the object and makes the texture of the wall visible.
Colour: Getting the bright blue colour from the sky, the creaminess colour from the wall and a mixture of colours from the girl that has been painted.
Light: Using contrast as a guideline, I had to shoot looking up to get the blue backdrop so that my image didn't look too overexposed.
Community: You will find this in a Mural/Graffiti community

A Descriptive Letter: Place.

Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple.

Dearest Mother,
Served as a place of worship with a mission to promote interfaith, culture and education about how to lead good lives, the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temples located in Auckland and also in Christchurch were set to transmit the ideals of Humanistic Buddhism as proposed buy Venerable (servant of God) Master Hsing Yun, founder of the Fo Guang Shan Temples in New Zealand. A community filled with philosophy, psychology, sutra, tranquility, terminology, symbolism, meditation, realizations, growth, harmony and culture.

The Fo Guang Shan Temple in Auckland is the largest Buddhist temple in New Zealand. The temple and complex were built over a period of seven years at a cost of $20 Million NZ Dollars that opened in late September of 2007 designed with the architectural style of Tang Dynasty, using greyish green glazed roof tiles, maroon stone pillars and vertical slat window frames to project magnificence, grandeur, cultivation and strength that also features a large Buddha statue or the Main Shrine: Sakyamuni Buddha and a two-tonne bell instrument that represents awareness and reflection plus many more.

Descriptive Words.
Peaceful. Graceful. Beautiful. Elegant. Unity. Love.
Emotional. Neutral. Harmony. Relaxed.

My Experience.
Even as a non-Buddhist, I had a truly amazing experience with my trip to the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple with my CVA class from M.I.T. As soon as we walked through the entrance doors, immediately I felt a lot of weight just elevate off my shoulders. The front shrine or Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the main statue who signifies great compassion who greets you at the main entrance captivated me. After being introduced to the venue by a wonderful volunteer there, we made our way through to the courtyard and field of merit. This is the moment my eyes glistened, where the feeling in my legs became transparent while a great feeling of peace and love reached deep into my heart and encapsulated all the heaviness I had inside my heart weighing me down. One of the most beautiful places I have ever experienced in my life and am very eager to visit again in October or November as I hear that's when the Cherry Blossom trees appear to bloom.
